It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Deputy ManagingDirector,
Richard Jennings , who passed away on 21 September 2026.
Richard was so much more than a senior member of the Securitay team. He was a colleague, mentor, friend and a trusted presence to so many people within our business and across the clients and relationships he had built throughout his career.
Richard joined Securitay Limited in 2003 in a Sales and Development role. Over the following 23 years, he became an integral part of the company, progressing to Deputy Managing Director and taking overall responsibility for the day-to-day running and continued development of the business.
His contribution to Securitay has been immense.
Richard played a significant role in achieving our SIA ACS accreditation in 2008,expanding our geographical coverage to Aberdeen and Inverness, developing long-standing client relationships and helping Securitay grow into the business it is today,with an annual turnover exceeding £4 million.
But Richard’s greatest contribution cannot be measured in figures.
Richard believed strongly in people. He often spoke about having the “right people, in the right role, at the right time”, and he invested heavily in developing the people around him. He wanted to see colleagues succeed, both professionally and personally, and he took genuine pride in seeing members of his team develop and progress.
Richard operated an open-door policy throughout his time at Securitay. No question was ever too big or too small to ask, and he would always make time to listen, offer support and help people find their way forward. He never really saw us as employees. In Richard’s eyes, we were colleagues working together towards the same goals.
That was Richard.
He was approachable, professional, honest and capable, but perhaps most importantly, he was someone who was prepared to stand alongside you when things became difficult. He was a man of his word and was often the first to get his hands dirty when mobilising a project, resolving a challenge or dealing directly with a client’s concerns.
Despite his position, Richard was never a distant senior manager. He was at the forefront of Securitay’s success and remained closely connected to the people and clients who made the business what it is. And, of course, Richard had an Irish sense of humour that he was never afraid to bring to the workplace. Even when faced with a difficult challenge, he understood the value of a well-timed joke, a moment of laughter and the opportunity to reset before getting back to the task at hand. Many of us will remember those moments with a smile.
Before joining Securitay, Richard spent six years serving in the RAF, followed by a career in the security industry, including his time as an Area Manager with Securicor. The experience and knowledge he gained throughout his career became an important part of what he brought to Securitay and, more importantly, what he was able to share with those around him.
Richard leaves behind an extraordinary professional legacy, but his personal legacy is perhaps even greater. He has shared his knowledge, experience and guidance generously with colleagues throughout his time with Securitay. He has touched the hearts and minds of colleagues, both past and present, and of the many clients with whom he built relationships over more than two decades.
He leaves behind a business that is stronger because of his contribution, and a team that carries much of his knowledge, his standards and his values forward. Richard would, we believe, have wanted us to do exactly that.
His message to those around him was always one of confidence, collaboration and support: Believe in yourself. Have faith in your capabilities and never be afraid to ask for support.
As we come to terms with the loss of a much-loved colleague and friend, our thoughts are first and foremost with Richard’s family. He was a doting husband, father and grandad, and we extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to them at this incredibly difficult time.
For everyone at Securitay, Richard’s passing leaves a profound sense of loss. There will be an empty chair, a missing voice and countless moments when we will instinctively think, “What would Richard do?”
But there is also an enormous amount of gratitude.
Gratitude for the 23 years he gave to Securitay.
Gratitude for the knowledge he shared.
Gratitude for the people he supported and developed.
Gratitude for the clients and relationships he helped build.
And gratitude for having had the opportunity to work alongside him.
Securitay will continue, supported by the people, relationships and foundations that Richard worked so hard to build. We remain committed to our colleagues, our clients and the standards of service that Richard held so strongly throughout his career.
We will do our very best to carry his work forward, to look after one another and to continue building the business that he was so proud to be part of.
