If a member of your staff has to work alone on, or away from your premises as part of their job, It is your responsibility to ensure that these members of staff are not placed at any extra risk as a result of their job role, and may not be covered under your insurance policy.

Case History;Mike a H&S inspector has to visit wind farm in rural Aberdeen Shire to inspect turbines out with normal working hours.  Mike has to complete this task on his own, and raised his concerns with his line manager about being out in a remote area alone, in addition the clients H&S officer asked what procedures were in place for Mike in case of accident/emergency? The Inspection company did not have a 24 hour operation so there would not be anyone to monitor Mike or for him to contact out with normal working hours.

Solution;   Securitay has set up a lone worker monitoring service for Mike or any other inspectors. The Inspection company email Mike’s inspection schedule for the coming month, Securitay enter this in the automated system and schedule checks calls. Mike checks in at agreed start time and then hourly until agreed finish time. There is a 10 minute window for Mike to check in. If Mike misses a “check call” it will automatically alert our 24/7 duty controller and an agreed escalation plan is put into motion. Agreed passwords and duress codes are put in place to ensure authenticity, of caller.
